Today started in Reykjavík at 4.30am to catch the bus to the airport followed by a 3 hour flight to Amsterdam then a 2 hour flight to Budapest finally arriving at our hotel in the middle of the city at around 6pm. A long day of travelling and we were feeling a bit weary on arrival.
We decided to take a stroll along the Danube down to the Szechenyi Chain Bridge and took in the beauty of the Buda Castle lit up across the other side of the river. Our hotel is right in the city and on our way back we came across the Budapest Christmas markets. I’m not a great one for markets but everything here is homemade and the food stalls were amazing. We sampled some mulled wine, I had the apple and cinnamon and Amy the plum and cinnamon, which were both yummy and warming. Despite not really being hungry we also had to try a Langos with garlic, cheese and sour cream which was delicious. A langos was on our list of local fare we wanted to try. I suspect we may have another before we finish our time here. We didn’t have the stomach to try the rooster testicle stew but apparently it’s a gourmet delight, We’ll leave that one for the locals.
I had read about the energy of Budapest prior to our holiday but it’s not until you are the city that you get to feel the vibe first hand and appreciate that it really is it uplifting and we are excited to be here in this grand city with such positive vibes.
So we are now back in our room enjoying some cinnamon almonds while Amy is planning our adventures for tomorrow, sounds like she has a big day organised so I better rest up.
Good night or as they here ejszakat.
