We have now left Prague and made our way to Berlin. Amy made sure the swans were well feed before we left and we savoured our last glimpses of this wonderful city as we headed for the train.
Our train trip took a smidge over 4 hours and Amy was devastated the restaurant cart wasn’t open as she couldn’t get her obligatory bubbles for the ride. The scenery on the trip was very nice, unfortunately we had to overhear some ‘dumb’ Aussies talking with some Americans, I had to bite my lip at times due to their utter ignorance and stupidity. Then when the Americans left the train they decided to watch stuff on their phones with the volume up so all could listen. We could tell it annoyed more than just us in the carriage. Thankfully that didn’t last too long.
On a different note it’s always interesting hearing an Aussie accent after not hearing one for a while, it just sounds so, sort of harsh. While travelling overseas we try to speak ‘properer’ English, not Australian as such, so people can understand us more easily, which is easier to do when you aren’t travelling in tours with other Aussies. Anyway its always fun to hear our accent and the way we all bastardise the English language. It’s not a criticism, it’s just how it sounds is all and I suspect others hearing me may
think the same.
Arriving at the Berlin Central Station, HBF, I was in awe of its size, but it was easy enough to find our way to the right platform to get the train out to our hotel. It was a bit of a walk from the train to the hotel and we may have taken the long way but we made it just as the heavens started to open up. Our room is very comfortable but hotel is a bit of a maze with plenty of stairs, I got my exercise for day just lugging our bags around.
With the weather a bit dodgy we didn’t wander too far tonight but we did suss out a Burger King menu as well as walked through a local supermarket. We also worked our our way via the underground to a German restaurant we had picked out at home that we thought would be good, but alas it was booked out. So we tried another German restaurant a bit closer to home that smelled sensational when you entered and had all the German dishes we want to try, but alas that was booked out too. So we wandered across the road and enjoyed some excellent Italian, I had to try a calzone in Berlin and it was awesome.
Anyway, we’ve now emailed the German restaurant nearby and hopefully will have a reservation for tomorrow night.
Amy is planning a jam packed itinerary for tomorrow so I better sign off and say gute nacht.
